Ambulatory Healthcare Services Launches Training Program for School Nurses in Abu Dhabi
The Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), part of the PureHealth network, has initiated a training program for school nurses in public schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for the academic year 2023–2024. The program aims to support and empower school nursing staff involved in the school screening program launched by Abu Dhabi Public Health Center. The training, accredited by the Department of Health — Abu Dhabi, spans seven days and involves over 300 nurses in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra.
Conducted by AHS’ School Health Services department in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA), and Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE), the training covers various aspects such as school health policies, screening programs, care for patients with chronic diseases, mental health screening, and more. The program focuses on enhancing the competencies of school nurses and ensuring they can provide quality services to the school community, especially students.
Dr. Asma Al Halaseh, CEO of AHS, emphasized the commitment to continuous education and professional development of the workforce, aligning with PureHealth’s dedication to upskilling its employees. The training program addresses the needs of school nurses, with a strong focus on chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy. The Emirates Schools Establishment highlighted its commitment to providing periodic training and courses for educational staff to raise safety standards for students.
The training was conducted in small groups under the supervision of ‘Charge Nurses’ from the School Health Services department in Abu Dhabi, and a ‘Train the Trainer’ model was implemented. Experts from healthcare entities, including AHS, SEHA, Fatima College of Health Sciences, and the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, contributed to the training program. The initiative aims to empower medical teams in the early detection of common diseases among students, facilitating timely interventions for improved health outcomes.
